Burying the Hinkley White Elephant

20 October 2015

On 9th October there was a fantastic pop-up protest at Hinkley, which aimed to bury the Hinkley C nuclear white elephant once and for all. Speakers were Green parliamentary candidate Theo Simon, Molly Scott-Cato Green MEP for the South West, and Dennis Baupin, Vice President of the French Assembly, who all spoke convincingly about the huge folly of this project.

But if you want to open a nuclear power plant with nuclear waste that will last for hundreds of years, you don't have to yet have a waste management strategy!"

And as of yesterday, 19th October, a group of anti-nuclear activists, including Theo, have set up camp on a roundabout at the gates of the Hinkley C nuclear building site. Theo said: "We want to send a strong message to the Chinese President, George Osborne and the people of Somerset that EDF's project is an expensive road to nowhere, and only investment in renewable energy now makes any sense."
