TTIP Petition, One Planet Sunday and Leave to Remain

20 October 2015

Around 20 supporters turned out on 9th October to deliver the 38 Degrees petition to David Warburton MP showing that 956 constituents in Somerton and Frome were opposed to TTIP. There were over 500,000 signatories in the UK and over 3.25 million Europeans opposed. Mr Warburton agreed to take questions, admitted there were points he wasn't aware of and agreed to get back to the petitioners with his answers. We eagerly await his response.

We had a brilliant day at One Planet Sunday at the Cheese and Grain in Frome on 11th October. We joined many other community groups, environmental organisations and campaigners in this day-long celebration of local green successes, and also shared our concerns about threats such as fracking and the government's cut to Feed-in Tariffs which are already damaging the solar energy industry.

Earlier in the month, a very successful film and discussion evening was had on the subject of the rights of asylum seekers at our showing of Leave to Remain. The event raised £200 for the destitution fund of Bristol Refugee Rights. We hope to make this a long standing collaboration.
