We have learned that Somerset County Council's pension fund has lost £872,000 in the value of its fossil fuel investments since last October. Frome Keyford's Green Party councillor Shane Collins has been leading the campaign for the fund to disinvest £121 million from these environmentally damaging and financially risky companies, and our 'Bursting the Bubble' event in February explored the problem of overvalued fossil fuel investments (the 'carbon bubble'). It seems increasingly irresponsible of SCC to resist the calls to switch their investments to safer, greener alternatives.
