Bus campaigners in East Mendip are concerned by Bath and North East Somerset Council's proposal to end its subsidy of evening bus services. This could mean the end of the evening 267 service between Frome and Bath, which also serves major villages like Beckington, Rode and Norton St Philip. Budget pressures on councils to save money by withdrawing subsidies for public transport overlook the knock-on economic and social benefits these services have - boosting the economy of the local area by enabling people to work, study, shop and socialise within the area. Buses are greener than taking a car - and cars are not an option for many people who may be cut off without access to public transport. BaNES are running a consultation on the issue here, which you can contribute to before 5pm on 16th Sept.
