Pepita Collins is the Green Party candidate for Frome North

15 January 2017

Pepita CollinsEast Mendip Green Party have selected Pepita Collins to be our Frome North candidate in the Somerset County Council elections taking place on 4th May. Pepita has lived in the area for much of her life since she was a young child and now runs her own business in Frome, carrying out eco-friendly renovation. She is also Chair of the Cheese & Grain, whose charitable work she is immensely proud of.  Despite her ‘senior’ years, Pepita recently went on a demonstration for the first time in her life – the women’s ‘Bridges, Not Walls’ anti-Trump march in London.

“I’ve never been a political animal, but I now feel the country is ripe for change. The public CAN make a difference, and where better to start than here in Somerset? If elected, I’d stand up for Frome in the County Council. I’m not easily intimidated and I won’t stand for any waffle. Maybe we can’t stop a wall in Mexico, but we can build bridges with the County Council in Taunton!”

Pepita intends to focus on things that Frome really needs: such as more local employment, affordable housing, and better care for the elderly (she was the rep for Help the Aged in the South West). But her greatest passion is education. “The County Council must do all it can to protect the education service. As one of ten children who didn’t have much of an education myself, I know how important it is. Frome has some great schools and we must do all we can to help them thrive.”
