A Fair Deal for Frome

29 January 2017

Martin Dimery with Cllr Des CollinsFrome receives much less support from Somerset County Council than Taunton, Bridgwater or Yeovil. According to Somerset's own published figures, public spending on building projects reached £44 million in one year alone in Taunton, whereas Frome - the fourth largest town in the county - received only £1.5 million in comparable spending.

Martin Dimery explained: "As a resident and former teacher in Frome, I have long believed that we are forgotten by Somerset due to our considerable distance from the County Town. It is up to our elected Councillors to ensure that Frome gets its share. Frome is over half the size of Taunton yet has only received one thirtieth of the money for development. It's quite clear that some of Frome's current County Councillors are not pulling their weight."

The Green Party is committed to working with other parties and groups to represent the best interests of Frome. Our three Green councillors at Mendip District work closely with Frome Town Council, and we welcome the support of many of Frome's Town Councillors. Martin continued: "We are trying to ensure that Frome is represented at District, County and Town levels by people who are not putting politics before the welfare of the town. The Independent group only stand on Town Council elections and there is evidence to suggest their decisions are not being upheld at District level for petty party political reasons. This has to stop." Green County Council candidates are dedicated to ensuring that Frome has a proper voice at Somerset County.
