East Mendip Green Party manifesto 2022

6 April 2022

A STRONG VOICE FOR FROME

On May 05 we will see the first elections for the new ‘Unitary’ Council. In 2023 the old district councils will cease to exist and become part of ‘Somerset Council’.

Meanwhile the spectre of the climate emergency and a diminishing window to make real green changes has to guide how the new Somerset Council runs itself.

If elected, we will:

  • Ensure a fair deal for Frome-making decisions that reflect views of local people
  • Ensure every policy prioritises tackling the climate emergency
  • Provide social housing for local people and those who need it
  • Ensure local housing fits the needs of our communities
  • Improved public transport and greater opportunities for cycling and walking
  • Defend services for the most vulnerable in our community
  • Ensure greater environmental protection for our green spaces and rivers, to build a healthier more resilient community
  • Work with councillors from all parties, Frome Town Council and local groups for a collaborative joined-up approach to local government
  • Defend health and social care services and ensure services meet the needs of Frome
  • Make plans to adapt to changing reality of the climate emergency
