Martin Dimery accepts the position of leader of the Green Group on Somerset Council

16 May 2022

Following the successes of the Green Party in Frome and in Tone Vale near Taunton, Councillor Martin Dimery has accepted the position of leader of the Green Group, and Councillor Dave Mansell Deputy Leader.

Martin commented:

"I'm delighted to have been asked to remain as leader of the new Green group on Somerset Council, with Dave Mansell from the Upper Tone ward, near Taunton, as deputy. Our election results were excellent. Record numbers of Green parish and town councillors were elected along with 5 Somerset Councillors. Shane Collins, Mick Dunk and Helen Kay were also elected from the Frome Wards. We have enough members now to ensure good representation on many important committees.

"We are happy to cooperate with the new Liberal Democrat administration and also to hold them to account. We will be pushing hard to initiate more climate related policies and initiatives.

"We are absolutely delighted with the Frome West result, with myself and Michael Dunk getting in by a comfortable margin, which was unexpected - we thought it would be tighter than it was.

"And we are really thrilled that Frome East was won by Shane Collins and Helen Kay and that we improved our performance in Frome North as well, which was great. We've worked incredibly hard during this campaign, and the team behind us was amazing. I think if you are Green you have to work harder than all the other parties to convince people to vote for us - and we did just that. This is a tribute to all those that got involved - Frome now has predominately Green representation on Somerset County Council."
