Martin Dimery, Parliamentary Candidate for the Green Party in Somerton & Frome was interviewed for this month's The Leveller as part of their Somerset Lives series. He was asked "What are your priorities as a Somerset County Councillor?" He replied:

"First of all, I am now chair of the Environment and Climate Change Scrutiny Committee, which examines the policies the council will bring forward to improve the ecology and environment throughout Somerset. There is a lot you can do locally, particularly in things like recycling of waste, how you repair roads, the local transport set up, and preserving ecological areas. Then there are planning applications being put forward for houses with gas boilers which in 2 years will become obsolete. This is not something I deal with currently but will do in the future. So it's right councillors are saying, no, think of the future. We have got to use ground source heating or other methods such as air source, renewable sources of energy. They might be more expensive for developers but they have to start doing this."
